Top 5 Dog Friendly Beaches on Hvar

If you’re going on a vacation with your pet, the island of Hvar is an ideal location for exploring beautiful dog-friendly beaches where your furry friend can freely swim and enjoy, while you relax on secluded beaches. Here’s an insider’s guide to dog-friendly beaches on the island of Hvar and places we love to visit.

Zavala

These beaches are undoubtedly the most beautiful on the island of Hvar and are often crowded with families with young children. Although children and dogs usually go together, you may find yourself in an awkward situation if the beach is really crowded. However, you may not have known that Zavala is actually a small dog paradise. One excellent place to start is the adorable Lungo Mare from Zavala towards Skalinada, where you can choose from several small sandy coves and rocky platforms. You can park your car in Zavala, at the Zaca beach, and head towards Skalinada. The beach in the Zavala harbor is also a dog-friendly beach.

Jelsa, pbeach Gradina/lighthouse Iga

This beach is a favorite among those who enjoy privacy and sunbathing in peace and quiet. Just a ten-minute walk from the center of Jelsa, along a beautiful promenade shaded by tall pine trees, you will reach a pier with a red lighthouse known as Iga. Here you can choose between lounging on the lighthouse plateau, in the forest, or on the rocky terraces behind the lighthouse, with a walkway leading to the sandy cove of Mina.

Molo Zaraće

Malo Zarace, also known as “Tooth od Zaraca” or “The Axe,” is a beach with a hundred names. We are confident that the elongated rocky reef will impress you with its appearance, but it is the color of the sea here that is truly otherworldly.

Glavice, Vrboska

This beach is also known as an FKK (nudist) gathering spot, so don’t be surprised if you come across a few nude sunbathers. At the far end of the peninsula where our Little Venice begins, you will find perfectly flat stone plateaus with secluded spots where you can catch some shade, all the while accompanied by a dense pine forest. Does it get any perfect than that?

Žukova, Stari Grad

Not far from Stari Grad, just five minutes away from the place where you can park your cars, awaits one of the most beautiful beaches in the vicinity of Stari Grad. The beach is pebbly and is mostly frequented by parents with children, while on the left and right side of the bay, there are stunning stone plateaus that gradually descend into the sea. Here, you can enjoy your time carefree with your four-legged friend. If you’re up for a special lunch, we recommend the secluded Vaiana Beach restaurant located in the Zavala bay, just across from the beach.

Čorni Petar – Grebišće, Jelsa

The favorite dog gathering spot near Jelsa is the sandy cove of Grebišće. Pets have been welcome here for decades, and the space designated as the dog beach is quite large. Feel free to explore the numerous secluded beaches with your furry friends. It’s an unwritten rule that whoever occupies a beach, regardless of the number of legs, claims it as their own.

Lastly, it’s important to know that all the bays in Brusje, Zastražišće, Gdinj, and Sućuraj are places where Mother Nature takes the lead, and where all Earth’s inhabitants are welcome.
